May 17th and 18th will cover mechanical advantages and rope tricks. We will explore the use of ropes and other equipment for the unpinning of boat, people, and stuff. We will start with simple systems progressing to full blown "Z" drags. This is a demo and do class, please bring your standard patrol gear. You are welcome to join me at Skinner’s Falls to finish the day with a stationary patrol after the skill drill session. Location: Zane Grey Parking Lot. Time: 9am to 11pm.
June 28th and 29th focuses on in water mobility wading, throw bags, and stabilization lines. Time to get wet, in much warmer water. We will be spending some time in the current under the Roebling Bridge reinforcing and practicing some of the skills from spring training. We will be throwing ropes to folks swimming, wading across currents individually and in teams, and setting up a stabilization line with anchors. This is a participatory class, be prepared to get wet and bring your standard patrol gear. You are welcome to join me at Skinner’s Falls to finish the day with a stationary patrol after the skill drill session. Location: Meeting at the Zane Grey Parking Lot, the class will be conducted under the Roebling Bridge on the PA side. Time: 9am to 11pm.
July 26th and 27th will work boat based rescue. This is an active patrol with practice on the River. While we are going down river, it’s time to practice your skills. We will be hitting eddies, peeling out, and ferrying. The class will also include interacting with swimmers, towing boats, and boat recovery. It’s going to be fun! We will be boating from the Zane Grey parking lot to the Barryville Park office, now known as Corwin Farm. Location: Lackawaxen access (meeting in the Zane Grey Parking Lot) to the Corwin Farm NSP office. Time: 9am to when we get to the take out.
August 23rd and 24th practices combat swimming at Skinners Falls. August brings warm weather and the warmest river temperatures of the year. It’s also time to work on our combat swimming skills. We will be learning how to swim defensively and offensively in dynamic river currents. Eddy lines, proper entry techniques, and utilizing currents will be covered. This is stationary class and will be staying at Skinners on patrol after class. Wet suits may be helpful if you are concerned with bumping rocks during your swims. Location: Check in at the Zane Grey parking lot, we will then shuttle to Skinners and start the fun. Time: 9am meeting at Zane Grey, Skinners around 10am to late afternoon, when we get tired.
